Physical Activity and Exercise in Obesity and Weight Management for Lymphedema Patients
Yoo Ji-Sung

Abstract
Obesity is associated with several comorbidity and increased risk of some cancers in general population. Obesity after cancer diagnosis and treatment can exacerbate risk for functional decline, comorbidity, and possibly cancer recurrence in cancer survivors. In addition, obesity is well known risk factor of lymphedema. Therefore, clinicians need to educate awareness of the weight management in cancer survivors with lymphedema. For weight reduction, aerobic exercise is main component than resistant exercise. However, combined aerobic and resistant exercise is effective for reducing lean mass loss during weight loss and improving functional statue. In lymphedema patients, several studies showed that progressive resistant exercise does not have a systematic negative effect on breast cancer-related lymphedema. Therefore, clinicians need to educate patients on aerobic and progressive resistant exercise strategies on lymphedema patients.
